This charming house and garden is a well-tended and ideally placed spot for a family holiday. An retractable awning protects those who sit down to lunch from the fiercest of the sun's rays. The light of Provence is never far away in this house, as it streams into the open French doors of the living room If this doesn't spell relief on a hot day, what does?

Accommodation

Immediately apparent on approaching the house is a beautiful wrap-around patio that provides an abundance of places to sit and relax as well as eat al fresco on a summer's evening while enjoying stunning sunsets and a glass of the local Rose. Entrance to the farmhouse is into a good-sized kitchen/ dining area with French doors leading out to a shaded patio with stunning views of the Maures National Park. A doorway leads through to a cosy stylish living area with wood burner and comfortable seating, with high ceilings and exposed beams providing a truly Provencal ambiance. This room also has patio doors out to the shaded terrace.

On the ground floor there are two good-sized bedrooms that share a bathroom and a separate WC. On the second floor there is a spacious master bedroom with adjoining dressing room and separate shower room with toilet. A staircase with outside access leads down from this area straight into the garden and pool area, which is fenced and very private. The salt-treated pool is kidney-shaped and has a beachfront entrance, ideal for allowing little ones to play in the shallow end. There is also a lovely shaded pergola that provides a spot to get out of the midday sun and relax with a good book.

Around Plein Maures

Part of the delight of a Provencal holiday is slipping into local life in historic market towns and here, in addition to Vidauban just down the road, the winding streets of Les Arc, Lorgues and Le Luc offer farmers' markets, bustling shops and cafes and restaurants with tempting cuisine. Yet this area is also known as a haven for active visitors, with Massif des Maures, the stunning mountain range on the horizon, a mecca for hikers and mountain bikers. Swimming and sailing on Lac du St. Croix, exploring the spectacular canyon of Gorges de Verdon or diving off the Iles de Porquerolles, the 11th best diving spot in the world, are all easy day trips.

Cote d'Azur towns such as Saint Maxime and Saint Tropez can offer cocktails in stylish bars overlooking the Mediterranean, though on the way south one might stop in the hilltop villages of Tourtour and La Garde Freinet, which wear their centuries with grace. Yet whether you soak up culture or cocktails or travel by horseback or canoe, chances are that 'at home' days with the family at Plein Maures will also be moments well spent and long remembered.
